Finding Ninana creates conversations about the physical and metaphorical relationship between femininity, nature and the man-made landscape of a society that worships the Goddess - which is prevalent in Cyprus’ history and modern tourism. I have used symbolism associated with Middle Eastern and Greek models of Goddesses to influence my image making during my time spent in Cyprus to find “Ninana”, seeking parallels that speak of maternity, fertility, sexuality and the female body. Ninana means “Lady of Heaven” but what is a Lady of Heaven? These images prompt narratives that answer or challenge the question.
